Adoption (and a bunch of stuff to make 10 letter title)
Been putting eggs in the 'bator in ones and twos as I get them. Had 2 little gooselets, one bigger than the other and starting to hatch ducklets in ones and twos now at same time. The bigger gooselet wanted to pick on little ducklet so set it free w/the big birds. Worked a charm. They raise babies communally so didn't think there would be much of a fuss and there wasn't.
Herded a few of the big ones wandering around in a pen and put the little tyke down. Took to him in a minute then turned them all loose and the little guy is following the big birds around and they are lookin' after him/her

No, seems have one goose that goes broody and the others just lay eggs.
Initially thought they took to him but after awhile not so much ..... so put a pair in a pen w/the little tyke but might go and bring him in tonite as they seem to be ignoring him.
Big brooder pens are in w/setting goose and she is within a couple of days or sooner of hatching so didn't really want to put him in the brooder w/her right there and poss. throw her off.
Had him in a smaller brooder in house but started to put new ducklets in there and he was picking on them
Might just put him in a box in the kitchen for the night.
Wish it would warm up as would tolerate prob pretty cool but still freezing at night

Do you run into issues settings eggs like that or do you have big enough incubator space where it doesnt matter?
Re: Adoption (and a bunch of stuff to make 10 letter title)
I have a new 88 egg 'bator that they spend the bulk of the time in, then have a small 42 egg Jaonel w/no turner and high humidity that I put them in for last 3 days.
I just mark a number in pencil on each egg then transfer them when ready. That way is fresh eggs incubating as they lay ones and twos frequently every other day so hard to keep them 'fresh' till a tray full.
Really, really, really happy w/my 2 new chinese 'bators.

One, lone baby is a TOUGH thing to handle. Even 2 is better, then they have a buddy. I wish you luck!

Have little igor gooselet too, we helped him out of it's shell and was sorta bent up. But jennifer put a elastic around a wing and onto his leg and straightened right up in less than 24 hrs. It is in w./the little ducklets but fatso was picking on them so is in pen w/pair of setting goosies and they just ignore him but still company, then bring him in at night and put him in a box bye himself.
If would warm up at night would be better but looks like another week-10 days of still freezing.
