Any fishermen/women here?
A favorite pastime of ours mostly during the summer months but we're hoping....or at least I'm hoping to expand that into the winter next year. I've been fishing since I was a little kid and it's my way of relaxing. Here's a few pics to show off some of my catches over the last few years.
My biggest Walleye to date, caught last summer.
Nice little Pike.
Some older pics from fishing in Sask. Goldeye.
Here's my biggest Saskatchewan Sturgeon, about 5ft long and approx 90lbs. Caught it on my 6ft spinning rod with 8lb test and a pickerel rig, took me an hour playing with my drag to land this one.
Some Salmon fishing on the Fraser River in BC. Sockeye.
Last but not least my proudest and biggest catch a White Sturgeon, 7ft+ and approx 250lbs. Couldn't wipe the smile off of my face for a while after this one.
So!! Who else shares this hobby/passion/obsession?

Re: Any fishermen/women here?
HEY Where's the huge one!
You can see the progression. His second picture was my first catch, then the other one was the second, and this one was the third. I think I caught 4 more after as well, we brought home 80lbs of carp that day and the dogs went nuts for it (once they left it out in the field and sun for a couple days).
I might only catch carp, but I catch a lot of them and Ryan, even when he tries, can't catch them. I just can't -not- catch them.

Sweetened, I take it you do not eat carp?
Ryan, what is sturgeon like to eat? I have always wanted to catch one and tried once in the Shuswap, before it became illegal to catch them. There are old time stories of 800 and 1000 pound fish being pulled out of the lake with teams of horses, since standing on the shore and reeling this fish in is NOT going to happen! DId you eat yours or was it catch and release?

I honestly couldn't tell you what they taste like, I don't believe there is any species in Canada that is legal to keep and eat. Actually unless something has changed it was actually illegal to even target them while fishing in Saskatchewan.
Any Sturgeon I've ever caught were released unharmed.

Re: Any fishermen/women here?
Those sturgeon are truly awesome! I would be scared to be near something that big in the water. Maybe this is why I won't swim where I can't see the bottom!
Back when we went sturgeon fishing it was still legal. We just has to buy a set line permit if we were leaving our line out overnight.
Back when HUb worked in the reduction pit at BC Fish Packers in Steveston, HUGE sturgeon would come in off the boats. Enormous prehistoric looking things. They lugged them around with forklifts. Also moved the halibut with forklifts.
I always wanted to try sturgeon, but I guess I missed my chance. We did however, living on pauper's wages, eat seafood like kings! Every now and then a salmon would get dropped by a cleaning person and it would end up in the reduction pit. Hub would hook it out and bring it home. Fabulous!

Re: Any fishermen/women here?
Went fishing monday
110 perch and 10 jacks between 5 of us.
Beauty day.
I often in summer drop tools around 1530 and is 30 mins by backroads to semi undeveloped lake w/pickeral, jacks, perch. Have a little 10ft boat can lift into the truck myself and a elec motor.
Like a good luck mantra, I always say to myself as soon as on the water "wonder what the city folks are doin' right now"
lolololololol

Great looking fish
We go fish in summer and winter, kids are still very young so most of the time I'm dealing with tangled lines and wet feet and they haven't even got to use real hooks yet.

Re: Any fishermen/women here?
I LOVE fishing! My hubby and I used to fish all the time as soon season started. Mostly just walleye and pike.
I always do CPR which is Catch-Photo-Release
A few years ago we had carp coming into the dam and wow, they were HUGE! We caught a couple. It wasn't difficult. There were hundreds of them. Now they seem to spawn at another part of the river in another town.
I hope I will have time to go fishing this summer again. I love river fishing, just from the shore, or get my boat to a lake to spend a day on the water to peddle and fish.

Kids
Stick with it Ballyrag! Not much in life is better than seeing your kids light up when they tie into a good sized fish!!
