Re: Spring Has Sprung
I order most of my seeds from there. There are a couple varieties I get from West Coast Seeds and Salt Spring Seeds as well, but the vast majority comes from HHS. I just love their seeds.
Re: Spring Has Sprung
I have not ordered seeds yet. I need to have a meeting with the deer and find out what they'd like to eat all summer before I place my order.

Oh sure. I'm blind and forgetful. Guess who will be leaving fertilizer behind! Nothing like having a stroke in the garden because I booby trapped myself! At least I will go out the way I lived ;ridiculously!

Re: Spring Has Sprung
I know that this is not following the general gist of where this thread is going, but I need to post it. Every time I read Spring has sprung, I think of something my grandma used to say. I said it once, and now my kids are repeating it over and over again...
Spring has sprung,
The grass is riz,
I wonder where
The birdies is?

Threats will be nicer tomorrow on, but not seasonal, just barely + daytime and - at nite
Looks like might be like last year round here, went from winter to summer w/no spring.
Lots of snow on the ground end o' apr but suddenly was planting garden 3 weeks later.
Like when there's spring.
Goosie eggs almost filling 'bater, be nice if was warm enuf not to freeze eggs at night for them to fill their nest too.

Re: Spring Has Sprung
Song Sparrow arrived in New Brunswick yesterday. Robin arrived today. They must be wondering what the heck is going on. Better be sure to keep the feeders filled. Finally had a bit of melting but still a long way to go. Supposed to be 12 degrees tomorrow. Bring it on!
I'll have to do something special for the robins. Looks like chopped apple can work. Maybe meal worms (which the squirrels might leave alone).

Re: Spring Has Sprung
We can taste some sap on our maple syrup spiles. There is next to nothing flowing as of yet, but it is super sweet. This week should bring more. We are checking daily. It is so late to start, but with everyone saying how deep the frost was this year, it is no surprise that it is late. We are just surprised that it is so sweet.

Re: Spring Has Sprung
Saw a robin yesterday and the blackbirds have arrived. We also have 5 eagles in the area, which I've never seen before. So lovely.

Re: Spring Has Sprung
I got to see a small skunk yesterday...4 times right beside the highway as I zipped back and forth. I guess that they are awake now too. It was far from our area, and going the right way, away from our area. Because of this, I actually got to enjoy watching it. I noticed that it took approximately 20 minutes to go about 1/8 of a mile.
We too, have seen an eagle and a robin just this week. The eagles are very beautiful. Usually we are in a migration path for all sorts of raptors. We see certain ones mostly in the spring and fall as they migrate further north.
WHAT? Davinci, I didn't see your post, before I posted. Is that even something to brag about? We are a far cry from having them here. Most likely the wood ticks will arrive first, and normally we would be seeing them in about a week or so. I HATE woodticks. I am just thinking that you can keep your mosquitoes. They will be here soon enough.

Re: Spring Has Sprung
Yes, we have them and that is part of the reason we got them...but if we let them out, the resident owl/weasel/fox, or the many hawks/eagles would have them too...for lunch. It is really not very nice.
Yes, we have been seeing those houseflies. Our kids are catching them to feed to their spider.

Re: Spring Has Sprung
It's nice to see flocks of geese flying over again. Oh dear, I hope it won't be an early mosquito season. I so hate ticks!
What do you guys use for your dogs for the ticks? Drops ? Collar? I put drops on my dog because the collar doesn't seem to keep up with the amount of ticks we get on the acreage. For myself I spray my clothing and hat and shoes with OFF when being outside.
