Bolting carrots
This year I made my own seed tape, only it was seed towels, gluing carrot seeds to paper towels and placing the paper towels in the garden, the point to avoid thinning.
This has worked well except I think I might have spaced them too close as the top growth is this thick, forest of carrots tops.
A few carrots have bolted. Up comes a massive stalk with a flower head. I yank them out. When I do I find there is no carrot at all on the bottom. Just this very short, white root.
Were these seeds bad from the start? It's not even August yet and to have carrots bolting already seems a little early. The rest of them are actually growing and looking like carrots. I have never had carrots bolt this early in the season, and when they did bolt at least they had a recognizable carrot on the bottom not this short, stumpy white root thing.
Any ideas?

I was under the impression that to get carrot seeds you need to plant a carrot.
Plant carrot seeds get carrots, plant carrots get carrot seeds. Same for onions, beets, parsnips, etc.
Obviously not .......
