ulu knives
I have wanted one for a long time. They sound like a do-all sort of tool and could save me all sorts of drawer space. Anyone here ever had experience with them?
I would like a Canadian made one, not Alaskan, and one that won't rust. There is a George somebody who lives in the Yukon who used to make them...Bandit Blades I think he called it? Now I think he only teaches how to make them. I think his would be my choice, but do you think I can find more information on if I can still buy his knives ready made? I would even gladly pay for his instructions on how to make them using the same steel he does...

Had to look it up. Very Klingon looking. Love it!

Re: ulu knives
I like the selection of knives. Many lie within our areas of interest.
I found one on the site that has high carbon stainless steel, which is my preference (traditionally they are carbon steel, which holds a sharp edge, but rusts easily). The price is reflecting it too. I may keep on dreaming for a while yet, BUT I will bookmark this site. Thanks!
I don't think it would be hard to make them, and plans are most likely readily found online ( like here: http://elfshotgallery.blogspot.ca/2011/02/making-steel-ulu.html?m=1), but where would you find the right kind of steel?
Upon searching a bit more, I found this site full of information: http://bluetrane.hubpages.com/hub/ulu-knives

No, just those expensive ones online. That will be a dream for the future, I think. For now, we will collect animals instead. lol
