If you feel comfortable please feel free to start your own thread or hijack this one and show off your own little homestead.

This is our place before it was ours but we knew we wanted it pretty much right away!

We ended up with 15 acres, about 3 being the yard site and the rest in hay. Perfect little house for our needs, oversized two car garage, big heated and insulated shop and run down old chicken coop(now back in operation). Unfortunately the old barn fell a few years before we came along and not setup at all for livestock (fencing....) so that will give me many future posts about the never ending work that we put into this place.

As I look at your pics, tears well up in my eyes and I get a hitch in my heartbeat. There is an awesome vastness to the Canadian prairie. I swear, it's where god lives. If there is a spirit blowing across the landscape, you will find it under the stars, the sun, that magnificence of creation that is the Canadian Shield. My soul is lifted just looking at your home. I wish I was there. I would stand on the edge of your lawn, look into the distance and weep. I am not a fun guest.

Good start! Any plans/opportunities to acquire more land?

We'd really love to if we could, we're just not sure it will be in this location. The person who sub divided off our 15 acres still owns the land surrounding us on three sides but even if he did sell in the future I doubt it would be to us (long story). The neighbour to our west is a possibility as he works full time at a mine up north and only farms part time but as is usually the case out here he has a large number of relatives who would have to pass on his quarter first before we'd ever have a shot.

My family owns a large amount of land across the lake from us and I've always dreamt of owning some, it's beautiful rolling hills and lots of trees and bush. Problem is tradition has always been for my grandfather to hand down the land to his sons and no matter how much I ask him to consider selling some to me he never takes me seriously. I still plant the idea in his head every chance I get so who knows maybe one day.

Such excitement. Road building, site clearing, septic installation, well drilling, I LOVE IT ALL! Have a fun time building your house and DO NOT move in until the baseboards are down or 22 years later, you still won't have any.

Stripped the house down to studs and put it all back together again. Took me by myself almost 2 years. Although 1/2 way thru gyprocing thought it would never get done it did and was worth every effort

Beautiful spots, Ryan and Ooptec.
I have to figure out how to put pictures on here to show some of my little acreage. :-)
Thanks for sharing!
