Of course, this should also work to help keep your home cool in the summer. They are used at night when blocking natural light isn't an issue, and if wanting to help keep you cool, to use only when it gets hotter in the day. These sound pretty easy to do and should not cost all that much to make, which is always good.

I like the idea of interior shutters, but then it takes up wall space. I do like the look of these cedar shutters:
